Yonkers, NY -- It took 26 days for the Yonkers City Council to become sufficiently infused with just enough political polemics to create the partisan divide that is Yonkers' comfort zone. It began innocently enough under the aegis of Majority Leader and Real Estate Committee Chair Patricia McDow who adroitly presided over the issue of granting Con Edison a permit to install four feeders in order to provide New York City’s Department of Environmental Protectionj (DEP) the ability to conform to a Federal Court Order that is related to project completion deadlines pertinent to the Croton Water Treatment Plant. The demeanor of the City Councilmembership in attendance was not inclined to bypass their outrage, and that of the community, regarding the recent trimming of trees by Con Edison that is now recognized to have been a complete cutting down of those trees. Back and forth pleas of urgency to proceed did not win the day for Con Edison Intergovernmental Communications Director John Banks. His past promises have been proven to come up short. Further still, it was learned that while specific Yonkers City Council Committees strove to hone in on issues that would eventual require its vote, Yonkers City Hall was dealing with the same issues, specifically through the Office of Deputy Mayor Bill Regan, but kept unaware of the corollary tract and efforts. Mention by Mr Banks that he had given notice to Yonkers City Council President Chuck Lesnick were not challenged by President Lesnick, but a flurry of inquiry of his staff received no further input to public mention if the circumstance was as described by Mr Banks. It became most evident that no one trusted anyone and that trust would come through proof rather than rhetoric. Yonkers likes it hard.
