Dear Mayor Amicone,
At this time, I respectfully tender this letter of resignation from my position as Police Commissioner of the City of Yonkers; effective midnight on December 31, 2011. It is my desire to have my last day as Police Commissioner coincide with your last day in office. You hired me in Nov 2006; it would be an honor and a privilege to leave with you. After five plus years in this position, I leave with a deep sense of pride and a profound feeling of accomplishment.

YONKERS, NY -- On Friday May 27, 2011, at approximately 8:07 p.m., numerous units responded to an apartment at 5 Van Cortlandt Park Avenue on a report of possible child abuse. Investigation revealed that children inside of the home were exposed to “PCP” (Phencyclidine). Members of the Emergency Service Unit (E.S.U.) rendered immediate aid to some of the children inside of the apartment. Six children (all under the age of 5 years old) were taken to area hospitals for evaluation, and three children were found to have been exposed to PCP. Patrol Officers and Detectives at the scene observed the apartment to be in disarray and unkempt. After investigation at the scene, three individuals who were left with the care and control of the children were placed under arrest. Child Protective Service personnel were notified of the incident and they responded to the scene. One child is still in the hospital at this time and he was last reported in stable condition. Additional arrests and/or charges may follow and the Detective Division is continuing this investigation, anyone with additional information can call 914-377- 7724. YONKERS, NY – Will David of The Journal News in an article first posted last night, May 17, 2011, wrote about the a brutal beating suffered by Robert, 50, the brother of Mayoral Aide Lorraine Lopez. The incident took place shortly after 5:00 a.m. after Lopez departed Sal’s, 209 Nepperhan Avenue. The Yonkers Police Department has not learned of a motive.

YONKERS, NY -- The Yonkers Police Department will be sponsoring a Citizens Police Academy beginning June 22nd, 2011 and concluding September 12, 2011. The 12 week program will meet on Wednesday nights from 6:30 to 9:30 PM.
Citizens Police Academies are effective in improving police – community relations and provide participants valuable insight into the comprehensive training that police officers receive.

Yonkers, NY, November 22, 2010 -- On 11/16/10 at 2:42 a.m., numerous units responded to 390 Riverdale Avenue (Getty Gas Station) on a report of a stabbing. Units located a 24 year old male city resident with a stab wound to his right arm. The victim related that he was walking with his girlfriend to the gas station when both were approached by a group (2 Hispanic males and 1 Hispanic female) who yelled “Vatos Locos” at the victims direction. A bottle was thrown at the victim and his girlfriend, and both ran towards the gas station. Inside of the gas station, the group of suspects began to swing bottles and a knife at the two victims. The male victim was then stabbed in his right arm and the suspects fled the scene. 3rd Precinct units canvassed the area and observed the suspects running in several directions in the area of Livingston Avenue and Radford Street. One of the suspects (later identified as Jesus Vivanco) was pursued on foot by officers. The suspect took a fighting stance towards the officers with a knife in his hand. An officer deployed an “ASP” baton and swung it at the suspect’s arm, causing the suspect to drop the knife to the ground. The suspect then began to throw punches at the officers, striking one officer above the eye which caused a laceration and swelling. The suspect continued to violently resist attempts to be taken into custody, and with the assistance of responding officers he was eventually handcuffed. The remaining suspects were not located. A knife was recovered at the scene. Four officers were treated at a local hospital due to this arrest. Three of the officers were placed off duty for injuries including back pain, a laceration to the face, and a knee injury.

Yonkers, NY, November 15, 2010 -- There will be a $5,000.00 reward offered for the arrest and conviction of homicide suspect Ronnell Jones. He is wanted for a double homicide which occurred on July 6, 2010 at 77 Locust Hill Avenue. Four other victims were injured in this incident, including a small child who was wounded by the gunfire. Yonkers, NY, November 13, 2010 -- On October 25, 2010 at approx. 4:10 pm a female victim walked into St. Joseph’s Medical Center with a stab wound to the left side of her chest. Victim related this incident was domestic in nature and provided police from the 3rd precinct with a name and a probable destination of suspect. Victim was treated by emergency room staff for her injury and released. Suspect was identified as Nefertiria E. Bennet of 69 Hamilton Ave. Suspect was located as well as the knife used in the assault at 69 Hamilton Ave. She was placed under arrest and was charged with Assault 2nd and Criminal possession of a Weapon 4th .
