Majority Leader Annabi Announces Vote on New Law

Targets Dangerous Weapons in Schools

YONKERS, NY -- At the request of the Yonkers Police Department, Yonkers City Council Majority Leader Sandy Annabi, (D - District 2) has brought to a vote legislation to outlaw the carrying of box cutters and other dangerous weapons on school grounds. The legislation was discussed in several meetings of the Legislation & Codes Committee, where it was reviewed and commented upon by the Yonkers Police Department, community members, and the Law Department, including the City’s principal prosecutor. The City Council will be voting on the measure tonight, March 25, 2008 at their regularly scheduled meeting at 8pm.

Safeguarding City Funds from Embezzlement By Hezi Aris

YONKERS, NY -- Majority Leader and Legislation and Codes Chair Sandy Annabi and Committeemember and Councilmember Joan Gronowski created a resolution for submission on March 11that would direct legislation to safeguard city funds afforded various agencies by specifying financial disclosure reports from those agencies in an effort to increase accountability and responsibility of those funds from misuse and / or embezzlement. The concern that brought the proposed legislation came about when news reports made notice of the alleged $66,000 embezzlement of grant money from the South Broadway Business Improvement District.
