Important Message from Mayor Mike Spano

Spano_Mike Yonkers Redistricted Map 2013We've come too far to let our City fall  victim to partisan politics. We've made too much progress in the past year to allow political bickering to set us back.

Over the last 17 months, we've moved Yonkers in a new direction, away from the days of governing by political party. Democrats and Republicans came together in passing the first, unanimously bi-partisan budget in nearly a decade. We've joined in moving forward with smart development projects that will rebuild our tax base instead of overburdening property taxpayers. We've avoided continued cuts to services and we continue to show other cities, states and Washington how government can work for the people when elected leaders work together.

Yonkers Expands Social Media Outreach Efforts on Tumblr, Instagram and Flickr

The City also launched a new problem solver application on its Facebook page for residents to express concerns or issues.

Yonkers Mayor Spano Urges Congress to Take Action Against Federal Budget Sequestration

Spano_MikeYONKERS, NY – March 1, 2013 – Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano took action this week urging Congress to avert $85 billion in across-the-board government spending cuts in an anticipated federal budget sequestration. Mayor Spano sent a letter this week to U.S. Congressman Eliot Engel encouraging him and his colleagues to take action in preventing the cuts.

YONKERS, NY – February 25, 2013 – Mayor Mike Spano today announced that Yonkers’ State of the City address will be held on Wednesday, March 20 at 7pm at the Yonkers Riverfront Library in Larkin Plaza. The State of the City will be the second address for the Mayor since coming into office last year.

Spano_MikeYONKERS, NY – February 6, 2013 -- Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano today announced a major victory in the effort to reform costly Fire Department labor practices, saying that the New York State Public Employee Relations Board (P.E.R.B.) yesterday issued a ruling siding with the City’s attempt to declare an impasse and begin the process of mediation and, ultimately, potential binding arbitration.

Yonkers Mayor Spano Cracks Down on Graffiti

Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano SealYONKERS, NY -- January 17, 2013 -- Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano today announced the re-launch of the City’s graffiti hotline to report the defacing or vandalism of any building structure located within the City of Yonkers. Residents are encouraged to call 914-377-8077 to report any form of graffiti. A reward of no more than $500 per conviction will be awarded to any person giving information leading to the detection, arrest and conviction of the person guilty of defacing buildings or structures, whether privately or publicly owned.

Preparing for "Sandy" By Mayor MIKE SPANO

Spano_MikeAs you are likely aware, weather forecasters are warning of the potential for Hurricane Sandy to have a major impact on our region beginning Sunday evening and possibly continuing for several days. In preparation for such an event which could cause significant flooding, power outages and damage, Mayor Spano has declared a State of Emergency for the City of Yonkers and has ordered the Department of Public Works to provide for sand, sand bags and shovels for residents in flood prone areas. These emergency supplies will be made available Saturday and Sunday from 8AM-4PM at the City's Organic Waste Yard located at 610 Nepperhan Avenue. The Mayor has placed all emergency personnel on notice and is preparing Emergency Shelters at the Yonkers Police Athletic League facility (127 N. Broadway) and Lincoln High School. Additional information will be announced as further details on the storm are released. Visit www.yonkersny.gov for more information on safety precautions.

YONKERS, NY – September 28, 2012 – Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano announced today that the Yonkers Police Department (YPD) is taking part in the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration’s (DEA) National Prescription Drug Take-Back Initiative, Saturday, September 29 from 10AM-2PM. YPD’s four precincts will be drop off points for any residents who would like to dispose of any unused or expired medication for safe disposal. The initiative seeks to prevent pill abuse and theft.

Mayor Spano Promotes New Ethics Reform Initiative Requiring Public Disclosure of Financial Interests by Yonkers BoE Trustees By HEZI ARIS

Spano_MikeYONKERS, NY – Mayor Mike Spano has today advised a critical ethics reform measure initiated at his behest to create an environment and culture of transparency among city officials through greater public disclosure of financial interests. The new measure enacted by the Board of Ethics will require all Yonkers Board of Education Trustees to file annual financial disclosure statements with the Yonkers Board of Ethics.
