WHITE PLAINS, NY -- Democratic members of the Westchester County Board of Legislators (WCBoL) were astonished to find today that County Executive Astorino had authorized payment of over $93 million of pension costs that were not included in the 2011 Westchester County Budget. The County Charter clearly designates a protocol that transfers of appropriated funds to address excess spending must be first approved by the Westchester County Board of Legislators. Despite legal conduct being clearly delineated Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino chose to disregard statute.

Westchester County Executive Robert P. Astorino, joined by veterans and veteran’s advocates, today announced the launch of “Smiling on America’s Heroes,” a discount dental and eye care program available to Westchester veterans and their dependents. State Senator Greg Ball and Assemblyman Bob Castelli joined Astorino at the announcement.

Law Limits County Executive and Legislators to 12 Years in Office
White Plains, NY -- County Executive Robert P. Astorino has signed a law initiated by the Westchester County Board of Legislators (WCBoL) that limits the county executive to three, four-year terms and legislators to six, two-year terms. “The ballot box still remains the best way to express the will of the people with respect to elected officials,” said Astorino. “But term limits provide a check against entrenched interests gaming the system. They also promote opportunities for newcomers to serve the public. It is for these reasons that I have signed this legislation.”

Second Veto of His Administration
June 17, 2010, White Plains, NY -- In his second veto since taking office, Westchester County Executive Robert P. Astorino today rejected the Westchester County Board of Legislators’ (WCBoL) action aimed at overturning his selection of a vendor to provide medical services to the approximately 1,400 inmates in the custody of the county Department of Correction.
