Bits and Pieces By Vox Populi

Voxpopulib2_2 Yonkers Business Week: Noticeably small attendance, dry workshops, no innovation, very exclusive, no strong speakers, more of the same, breakfast, lunch, and dinner, golf and a cruise! Who’s party is this?

Yonkers City Hall: Major resignation from City Hall by Chief of Staff’s son , subpoenas to all City Councilmembers, and continued rumors of an impending indictment over a Ridge Hill vote. Where is Zehy Jereis these days?

Amicone in Wonderland By Vox Populi

Voxpopulib2 Let’s get right to the point Mayor Amicone.  What city are you living in and is your view being obscured by the minions surrounding you?

First, the State of the City address. Its three main points were development – now, educational formula aid change – soon, and a county-wide reassessment – later.

Superintendent Pierorazio has been in the district almost 35 years; the last six years in the Board of Education (BoE) Central Office in the capacity of deputy superintendent, and the last 3 years as superintendent.

Let’s Be Honest With One Another By Vox Populi

Voxpopulib2_2 On Tuesday, September 18, 2007, incumbent Republican Mayor Philip Amicone was, in affect re-elected to his second, and final four-year term as Mayor of the City of Yonkers by less than 3,000 registered Republican voters, basically from East Yonkers. Even though the voters will have to go through the formality of the November elections, the political system unique to Yonkers has masterfully engineered Mayor Amicone’s continuation in office; led by the “master” of the backroom boys, ex-Senator Nick Spano.

Surrendercrats by Vox Populi

Voxpopulib2_2 Let’s go just a little bit further at reform, Mr. Jenkins; as well as the self-serving executive committee of the Democrat Party, and its many recently, luckily, elected office holders. Let’s go beyond candidate truth in advertising, to truth and power sharing, as well, as truth in candidate selection.

Pigs Get Fat, Hogs Get Slaughtered By Vox Populi

Voxpopulib2 Incumbent mayor and candidate for a second and final four-year term, Phil Amicone has truly not understood the machinery of political bridge-building, from the boots on the ground perspective, as much as being a good student of mimicking text-book engineering feats of short duration to attain a seemingly good grade to pass his test as Yonkers’ mayor for the last two years of his current four-year term.

Yonkers, What is Your Primary Concern? By Vox Populi

Voxpopulib2 In a few short weeks Yonkers voters may well know who their next mayor will be! This will be determined by a rather small percentage of registered political party members who appreciate what the primary system is all about. Yet, it will affect the entire city in the November elections.

Is It Difficult to Raise $1,000,000? By Vox Populi

Voxpopulib2_4 Can anyone imagine the race for mayor in the City of Yonkers costing $1,000,000? That is quite a sum.

Recognizing Yonkers population of approximately 198,000 people as the official count by the last census, of which close to 100,000 are registered voters, and lately only about 40,000 of them actively coming out to vote in city-wide elections, that $1,000,000 is equivalent to roughly $2.50 per voter. Compared to the challengers’ numbers, each of whom raised about $30,000 to date; their cost per voter would be about $0.75 per voter. Should we be impressed or depressed? Neither. We should ask why it costs so much and how the election campaign funds are being raised; and from what sources? Besides, it is what you do, with what you have, and it’s not over yet.
