Lowey Statement on Iran Sanctions

Lowey_Nita  Congresswoman Nita Lowey (D-NY), Chairwoman of the Appropriations State and Foreign Operations Subcommittee, today released the following statement on the United Nations Security Council vote to impose multilateral sanctions on Iran:

 

The United Nations Security Council vote to impose multilateral sanctions on Iran is an important step toward addressing the most urgent threats to security in the Middle East and the world.  It demonstrates international unity in confronting Iran’s reckless pursuit of nuclear weapons.  Holding accountable the Iranian regime and its enablers is critical to global stability.

Rep. Engel Announces $1 Million HUD Grant for Yonkers

Engel_Eliot Washington, DC -- Congressman Eliot Engel announced the City of Yonkers was awarded a $1,001,857 grant as part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA).  The grant comes from the U.S. Housing and Urban Development (HUD), through its Community Development Block Grant Program (CDBG).

Rep. Engel Statement on Holocaust Museum Shooting

Engel_Eliot “Today, we see yet another example of how a disturbed person with a firearm can terrorize.  This man entered the Holocaust Museum, a place dedicated to remember the evil inflicted upon the Jewish people in World War II, with the intent to do violence.   It is disgusting to think about the children, whether they be visitors to our Capital from around the world, or children from local schools on class trips, having to run for cover in one of our National monuments or museums because an anti-Semitic madman decided to open fire on a guard.

Lowey Calls for Sunscreen Standards on “Melanoma Monday”

Lowey_NitaCongresswoman Government Must Finalize Skin Cancer Protection Standards 

Washington, DC – On “Melanoma Monday,” dedicated to awareness and prevention of skin cancer, Congresswoman Nita Lowey (D-Westchester/Rockland) called on the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to finalize standards for sunscreen that will alert consumers of the protection a product offers not just against sunburn-causing UVB rays, but against skin cancer causing UVA rays.
