Yonkers City Councilwoman Joan Gronowski said, “Thankfully, the City of Yonkers seems to be finally addressing the long-standing problem of how it has been dealing with delinquent property tax owners – some with more than two decades worth of unpaid taxes. In August 2010, I asked our law department what, if anything, the city was doing to pro-actively pursue these owners who long ago abandoned their financial obligations to the city, seemingly with no repercussions. The millions of dollars lost through years of the city’s not being pro active, contributed in no small part to our financial woes that are only worsening.” [Reference: Councilwoman Gronowski Cites Mayor Amicone for Lack of Police Presence in Lawrence Street Corridor]
