New York, NY -- In an effort to break the Senate stalemate, Senator Jeff Klein (D-Bronx/Westchester) and a number of his Democratic colleagues including Senators Diane Savino (D- Brooklyn/Staten Island), William Stachowski (D- Erie), Craig Johnson (DNassau), Brian Foley (D- Suffolk), Darrel Aubertine (D-Jefferson/Oswego/ St. Lawrence) and David Valesky (D-Cayuga/Madison/Oneida/Onondaga), proposed a longterm bipartisan operating agreement that would get the Senate back to work. The agreement was presented to Republican leaders and Senators Dean Skelos and Pedro Espada, Jr. at a meeting with Governor Paterson Tuesday afternoon.
"Ahead of the court’s call for the Senate to negotiate and compromise in order to create a governing agreement, the Senate Democratic Conference proposed a fair and bipartisan solution that would end Pedro Espada and the Republican leaders’ stranglehold on democracy. But our calls have been ignored. Therefore, I urge the members of the Senate Republican Conference to replace Pedro Espada with a leader willing to meet in good faith and find a workable solution.

Albany, NY – This morning’s session coaxed many Republicans to delay their coming on to the Senate floor. Despite her grave state of health, she plans to return to the Senate Chambers when it gavels at 5:30 p.m.
Albany NY -- "I am pleased that for the first time the Senate has implemented the requirement from the 2007 Budget Reform Act which provides that Senators have a summary of impacts of changes in the Executive Budget on their desks before the budget vote. The document provided to legislators and available online on the Senate website provides a section by section report on how the final budget changes the executive budget. I was disappointed that the previous leadership failed to implement this important reform provision in either 2007 or 2008, and am gratified that the new Senate majority has taken action on this issue. This reform will allow Senators to take an informed vote on the budget by providing information to them which has never before been provided to all members of the chamber on an equal basis."
Senator Krueger is Chair of the Senate Select Committee on Budget and Tax Reform.
