Mount Vernon, NY -- The ring from a cell phone rang. It pried the attention of those listening to Mount Vernon Mayor Clinton Young’s thoughts on the city wide narcotics crackdown that resulted in 31 arrests. Mayor Young continued to speak without missing a beat. He looked confident, evoking a renewed resolve to move on, unencumbered by the salaciousness of the political environment that would have sapped most men’s ability to maintain their focus and continue on. Mayor Young was resolved in mind to move forward. The cell phone rang again. No one in the Mayor’s Conference Room had taken the time to silence that cell phone. When it became clear that the cell phone was part of the evidence of the decimated narcotics distribution rings everyone laughed; so did Mayor Young. There was something resolute in his posture and demeanor. Mayor Young had called a press conference to tell of the early morning raids that today dismantled several narcotics distribution rings that were broken after a lengthy five-months investigation that brought the attention of the Mount Vernon Police Department Narcotics Detectives, under the aegis of Mount Vernon Police Commissioner David Chong, and investigators from the Westchester County District Attorney Janet DiFiore’s Office to stop the illegal trafficking of narcotics since the summer of 2008.
