CSEA Calls On Legislators To Keep Commitment To Budget Restorations

Teamsters Walk off the Job -- Strike at Westchester Recovery Facility

Local 813Teamsters Local 813 has called a strike against City Carting of Westchester citing unfair labor practices by the employer.

Some 50 drivers and plant workers walked out of the Westchester Material Recovery Facility, earlier today (Wednesday). The Local 813 workers have been working without a contact for nearly a year.

Macy's Workers Vote to Authorize Strike if Contract Isn't Reached by June 15

New York, NY -- The Retail, Wholesale, and Department Store Union (RWDSU), UFCW, announced today that more than 4,000 Macy's workers have authorized their executive board to call a strike in the event that a new contract is not secured by midnight on June 15. Local 1-S of RWDSU represents Macy's workers at the Manhattan flagship store in Herald Square and at three other stores in Parkchester, in The Bronx, Rego Park in Queens, and White Plains, in Westchester County. The Yonkers based store at The Cross County Shopping Center is not affected. This past week Macy's workers at all four of the stores voted unanimously to authorize the strike during membership meetings conducted from June 6th through June 9th.

Scaffold Collapse in Yonkers Proves Fall Protection Saves Lives

New York, NY -- The March 4, 2011, scaffold collapse that left two construction workers suspended 13 stories above a Yonkers street illustrates that knowing and adhering to fall protection safeguards saves lives, notes the U.S. Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration.  Each worker was wearing a personal fall arrest system and attached to a lifeline.  These safeguards prevented them from falling and allowed them to be rescued by the Yonkers Fire Department.

New AFSCME Ads Applaud Passage of Vital Jobs Bill

Washington, DC, August 11, 2010 --  The American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME), AFL-CIO announced today an ad campaign thanking key Democratic members of the House of Representatives for voting to save hundreds of thousands of jobs that were on the chopping block without adding a dime to the deficit.  According to a CNN poll released today, 60% of Americans support the legislation.

BREAKING NEWS: City, Teamsters Reach Agreement to Restore 2-Day Garbage Pick-up

YonkersCity_SealYONKERS, NY, July 16, 2010 -- Yonkers Mayor Phil Amicone and Teamsters Local 456 Union President Edward Doyle, Jr. announced a tentative agreement late tonight that will bring back 33 laid off city workers allowing the citywide restoration of two-day per week garbage pick-up for residential customers in Yonkers beginning on Monday, July 19, 2010.

Rally Planned at Senator Stewart-Cousins’ Office at 12:00 Noon, Friday, May 14th

StewartCousins_Andrea  May 12, 2010, Yonkers, NY -- On Friday, May 14, at 12:00 Noon, the Yonkers public sector unions will be hosting a peaceful rally in front of New York State Senator Andrea Stewart-Cousins office at 28 Wells Ave., Yonkers. The purpose of this rally is to implore Sen. Stewart-Cousins (pictured) to fight to bring back to Yonkers a fair share of all the tax money that is sent up to Albany. Without Yonkers’ fair share of money, vital services will be cut and public safety will be in jeopardy. Members of the Yonkers Police Benevolent Association, Yonkers Captain’s, Lieutenants, Sergeant’s Association, Yonkers Firefighters Local 628 and UFOA, SEIU, CSEA and AFSCME will be in attendance voicing their concerns. The public is urged to attend.
