Mayor Ed Koch Talks Campaigning for Obama on Capital Tonight Interview Via Streaming Video

In fact Koch was so upset over the administration’s policies on Israel he crossed party lines and endorsed Republican Bob Turner for Congress last year. But now, he’s on much better terms with the president. And in September, he’ll head to Florida to help Obama’s reelection campaign. Koch explains his decision

"His urging of the Israelis and Palestinians to engage in negotiations without preconditions was extremely important and his reiterating and demanding that Hamas give up violence, recognize the legality of the state of Israel and all prior agreements, showed real leadership."
hang on ! isn't demanding that Hamas recognise Israel and renounce violence (whatever that means) a precondition ? are we having preconditions or not.
Does Israel have to recognise Palestine as well ?
