Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano Announces Water Main Valve Replacement Project
Section of Palmer Road to be Closed to Eastbound Traffic
YONKERS, NY – July 6, 2012 – Mayor Mike Spano today announced the City is scheduled to begin its Water Main Valve Replacement project on Palmer Road, from Fero Street to Saw Mill River Road, on Monday, July 9th. To ensure safe and efficient completion of the replacement work, this section of Palmer Road will be closed to all eastbound traffic and a detour will remain in effect until completion of the project, expected during the week of July 23.
“While this roadwork may be a temporary inconvenience for local drivers, the improvements will provide for the long-term sustainability of our city’s water system,” said Mayor Spano.
The detour will remain in effect 24 hours a day during the duration of the project. For safety, the two driveway entrances to Saint Bartholomew’s lot on Palmer Road must be closed to vehicular traffic, however, driveway access will be maintained to this lot via the Roosevelt Street entrance/exit.
According to the City’s Department of Engineering, water service for residents and businesses in the area should not be affected. Any interruption to water service related to this project would be temporary, lasting no longer 8 hours.
Automated calls will be sent to local residents and businesses on Friday, July 6 informing them of the construction.
