July Sizzles at Empire City Casino with the Launch of a Summer Concert Series

YONKERS, NY -- June 30, 2012 -- Empire City Casino kicks off its Summer Concert Series on Sunday, July 1st with Cornell Gunter’s Coasters, The Platters and Sounds of the Drifters.  Other acclaimed acts of the concert series include Pat Benatar, Eddie Money, The Spin Doctors, and The Marshall Tucker Band.  Concerts will be performed outdoors trackside every Sunday through the end of August.  Ticket prices start at $22.50 and can be purchased by visiting www.empirecitycasino.com or on-site at Empire City Casino at the second floor redemption window.

Yonkers City Council Creates Budget Expected to Meet NYS Comptroller DiNapoli’s Demands By HEZI ARIS

YONKERS, NY -- June 30, 2012 -- The back-up papers presented to media was skimpy, that is, only one page that purported to differentiate the budget that did not win certification by the Office of New York State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli and the one that would go on to win unanimous approval by the City Councilmembership as did the previous one. The first document upon coming to a vote won unanimous approval; it was immediately followed by a second vote known as a “Motion to Reconsider”, under the standards set by Robert’s Rules of Order, could not be revisited additional times. The reason the second vote is designated as a “Motion to Reconsider”, is to permit the person voting an additional moment to reflect on the vote they just cast. This second action demands conscious and conscientious response to votes cast. By submitting to a “Motion to Reconsider”,  the Yonkers City Council implies its action is taken with forethought, contemplation, study, due diligence, and responsibility. This was not to be.

Yonkers Mayor Spano Appoints New Members to The Parks & Rec, Landmarks Preservation, Zoning and Planning Boards

Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano Appoints Interim Fire Commissioner

To ensure the safety of Yonkers is not in jeopardy during this transition, I have appointed present Yonkers Police Commissioner Charles Gardner to oversee the duties of both the Fire and Police departments. I have the utmost confidence in Gardner’s ability to manage and lead the best Fire Department in the country as we consider possible candidates for the new Fire Commissioner.”

City Of Yonkers Implements Zero Tolerance Policy Towards Workplace Bullying

Supreme Court Upholds President Obama's Affordable Healthcare Reform Law

Roberts_US Supreme Court Justice WASHINGTON, DC – June 28, 2012 -- The United States Supreme Court today upheld President Barack Obama’s healthcare reform law, ruling that the individual mandate is constitutional as a tax rather than under the Commerce Clause. Nearly all of the Affordable Care Act’s provisions also survived the states’ challenge. Chief Justice John Roberts (pictured) sided with the liberal wing of the Court in the 5-4 opinion.

BREAKING NEWS: Yonkers Fire Commissioner George Kielb Forced to Step Down By HEZI ARIS

YONKERS, NY – June 28, 2012 – Yonkers Fire Commissioner George Kielb, designated and appointed by Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano as his choice for Yonkers Fire Commissioner was today forced to officially resign. Rumor to this eventuality has been circulating for some time. Many people familiar with this situation rationalize Commissioner Kielb being forced to step down because the Spano Administration, in particular Yonkers Deputy Mayor Sue Gerry has been dissatisfied Commissioner Kielb has not been able to silence the Yonkers Fire Department and specifically Local 628. The Spano Administration is miffed because the Firefighters’ perspective regarding Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano’s Adopted FY2012-2013 Budget was derailed when New York State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli concurred with the issues that illegally transgressed on their legally binding contractual agreements.
