Concerto Time at the Yonkers Philharmonic
It's time to celebrate the accomplishments of the winners of the 34th Annual Concerto Competition sponsored by the Fine Arts Orchestral Society of Yonkers. PLEASE NOTE THE CHANGE OF DAY – SATURDAY, and THE CHANGE IN TIME - 7:30 PM.
The winners will perform with the Yonkers Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of James Sadewhite on Saturday, May 19, 2012 at Saunders Trade and Technical High School, 183 Palmer Road, Yonkers, NY, 10701, at 7:30 pm. Robert Sherman, Master of Ceremonies.
The winners, all students who study music in Westchester, are:
1st Place - Pianist - Michael Davidson - Tchaikovsky's Piano Concerto # 1 in B flat minor, op 23. Michael, a 14 year old pianist from New York City, will receive $1,000 donated by Dr. and Mrs. Robert Klein and Joseph D. Landi.
2nd Place - Pianist - Melody Hsu - Chopin's Concerto # 1, E minor. Melody, a 14 year old pianist from Rye, NY, will receive $700 donated by Dr. Kathleen Pistone Carucci in memory of Pasquale A. Pistone, Founder and Music Director of the orchestra.
3rd Place - Violinist - Haeun Souh- Bruch's Violin Concerto # 2 in D minor. Haeun, a 16 year old violinist from Leonia, NJ, will receive $500 donated by the Sala family and Joyce Henery in memory of Shirley Sala and he husband, Jerome (Gino) Sala, former Music Director and Conductor of the orchestra for 30 years.
4th place - Cellist - Issei Herr - Tchaikovsky's Variations on a Rococo Theme op 33. Issei, a 16 year old cellist from Pleasantville, NY, will receive $400 donated by the Calandra family in memory of Sharon Calandra, past flutist with the orchestra.
5th place - Pianist - Keika Mori - Mendelssohn's Concerto # 1 in A minor. Keika, a 16 year old pianist from New Providence, NJ, will receive $200 donated by Vera De Marco in memory of her brother, Pat J. Zappia.
