BREAKING NEWS: Yonkers City Clerk Joan Deierlein to Retire By HEZI ARIS
Yonkers Tribune / The Westchester Guardian sources have learned Yonkers City Clerk Joan Deierlein (Republican) will step down after approximately four decades as a civil servant; two decades of which are as a city clerk.
Her departure leaves Deputy Clerk Vincent Spano (Conservative) the only person in the Clerk’s Office with experience.
The Yonkers City Clerk’s Office permits representation from a maximum of three political appointees with the three largest vote getting parties permitted to designate one qualified individual.
One should expect a Democratic nominee and a Republican nominee to be entered for consideration by the Yonkers City Council membership.
On the Democratic side of the equation the YT / WG are hearing that Symra Brandon, Yonkers Democratic City Committee Chair, Patricia McDow, recently term-limited Yonkers City Council Majority Leader, and Rachelle “Rocky” Richard, Yonkers City Council President Chuck Lesnick’s Chief of Staff. are in serious contention.
On the Republican side of the equation, the name of former Yonkers City Councilwoman (6th District) Dee Barbato is regarded a favorite contender, as is David Tubiolo, son of Justin Tubiolo, 9th Ward GOP Leader.
With the Democrats holding the majority, it is likely the Democratic nominee, once designated, would accede to Yonkers City Clerk. Protocol would have the present Deputy Clerk, Vincent Spano, moved to 1st Deputy Clerk, and the Republican, accede to 2nd Deputy Clerk.
it's gotta be Rocky Richards. She actually works while the others shuffle and demand that others do their work for them. We need a clerk that keeps their eye on the items and keeps track of things in a proper way. No need for dramatic divas or schmoozing tap dancers. Rocky can actually DO the job.
If the Diva Pat McDow gets it, what will she do with all the information flowing around? She's already used the city email blast system to influence the vote, and has gotten deals for the parking of a car, and on and on. It has to stop. We need the clerk's office free and clear PLEASE! And Smyra already has a 6 figure pension to retire on, but just can't stop at the public tit. It's enough already, playing games with information.

How about a novel idea, actually hiring someone who scores the highest points on a civil service test.
Joan was great, and will be a hard act to follow. If we get a political flunkie, well it's awful.

This job is not a civil service position, but one which is decided upon soley by the city council.

David Tubiolo? Are you kidding me?
Posted by: No way | February 22, 2012 at 18:32
Well it should be a civil servant job. The idea of allowing the likes of Chuck or Larkin to pick and choose is crazy.

McCow is not qualified for the job, and if Smyra is already collecting a pension, then wouldnt she be allowed to make $30,000. a year without running afoul of the pension system. If she wanted to make more she would need a waiver, but the city would need to show that there were no other qualified candidates. Right, and I have a bridge to sell. Maybe the new mayor could do something that never happened in this city.... eliminate political patronage and change the rules so that it becomes a civil service position.

you are concerned with nonsense

Now that would be a breath of fresh air if Spano did that, but I doubt it.

Syrmra is past the age so no waiver is required. She has it wired. It will make it easier to be a party boss and an excuse to be in city hall and tell chuck what to do!

why isn't Vinny being considered for the open spot, he should become clerk and the new appointees should work under him, specially since he has experience

Besides whatever rules there are, do you really think it would be smart politically for Mike to make another Spano Clerk. That simply reinforces the negative view that many people have about them, especailly now with Nick a convicted felon. Whomever gets the job will be a placeholder, and Vinny will do Mikes bidding in the background and really run the show.

Will be sorry to see Joan leave her post. I wish her well in all her future endeavors. She was truly the most organized and efficient clerk.
The City can only hope that the next candidate is as non-partisan and classy in their work as Joan has been.

Rocky! HA HA HA HA HA HA HA!!! (Do you need me to write it some more?) She's that hack who hangs out with the loser Lesnick! She can take her weak staff with her.

Vinny can show them how to smoke. Lol

What? No article on Mike Spano's testimony???????

David Tubiolo? The guy is totally unqualified and isn't he still in college or barely out of college? How he can ever be considered for clerk is ridiculous. The only reason he is even being considered is his daddy.
Tubiolo has no experience except for being a school intern for Mike Spano who Tubiolo ended up stabbing in the back by working for Joe Dahli on the Rammondelli campaign. Now he's a coffee boy for the county. What a Resume for City Clerk!

Let's be realistic, Joan got the job the usual way, on her knees. She got it from John Spencer who gave it to her for Nick Spanos support when he ran for mayor. It was Spano who she dropped to her knees for. And with a husband like hers I don't blame her. A real man must have been a real change.
