ALBANY, NY – JANUARY 31, 2012 -- State Senator Andrea Stewart-Cousins (D/I/WF – 35th District) announced that the Senate unanimously approved Senate bill 5525-B, which will allow localities to contract for goods and services with the State, federal government, and other municipalities. The bill is designed to lower costs and in turn, save tax dollars.

Risk of Losing Influence and State Aid if Plan Goes Through
YONKERS, NY -- January 31, 2012 -- Yonkers City Council President Chuck Lesnick today testified before the Legislative Task Force on Demographic Research and Reapportionment at The Bronx Museum of the Arts and voiced his concern and the city’s need to keep the state’s senate district representing Yonkers undivided. A proposed plan before the state legislature would divide Yonkers into two separate districts and create the opportunity for a non-Yonkers resident to be elected to represent the fourth largest city in New York State and the largest in Westchester County.

political issue of the year in New York State is redistricting following the 2010 census. New lines for legislative and Congressional districts must be drawn in time for the 2012 elections. New York is on the path to being one of the slowest states to adopt new lines.

Yonkers, NY --Mayor Mike Spano on January 25, 2012, announced that he has selected County Legislator Bernice Spreckman to serve in the honorary position of Senior Affairs Liaison to the Mayor.
Legislator Spreckman, who currently represents the 14th County Legislative seat, previously served as a Yonkers City Councilmember, Vice Mayor and was elected the first female president of the New York State Councilman's Association.
