Murtagh Asserts Spano Takes Tens of Thousands from Municipal Unions and Unions with Organized Crime Ties
“The latest campaign financial filings from Mike Spano are proof that the choice for Yonkers’ next Mayor could not be clearer,” suggests John Murtagh, Republican candidate and designee for Mayor of Yonkers “This race is between Mike Spano and his Union bosses and John Murtagh and the taxpayers of Yonkers,” Murtagh advises.
“The Spano campaign’s latest financial disclosures reveal that, in just four months Spano has taken approximately $100,000 in contributions from unions, union bosses and those that support them. Among those, every major union in Yonkers City Hall as well as Unions whose leadership has, in the past, been tied to organized crime,” notes Murtagh
Murtagh continues, “In all, Spano’s filings reveal substantial contributions from over twenty different unions inside and outside Yonkers.”
“Spano’s campaign accepted money from a police union whose former long-term President was named as an unindicted co-conspirator in an organized crime racketeering case in Federal Court documents,” asserts Murtagh.”The union, The Detectives Endowment Association, is now run by his handpicked successor. That President’s uncle was a capo in the Gambino crime family according to federal documents,” Murtagh alleges.
Continuing, Murtagh sates, “Spano’s filings also reveal that he has received tens of thousands of dollars from Yonkers municipal unions as well, including the Yonkers Federation of Teachers, Police, Sanitation and Fire unions.”
Murtagh concludes, “It is clear that Mike Spano is going to be the Mayor of the Unions and not the Mayor of the taxpayers.”
“The people of Yonkers deserve a Mayor who will deal fairly but firmly with municipal unions, not a Mayor who owes his election to the Unions and will let them run City Hall,” advises Murtagh.
Murtagh completes his thought adding, “The people of Yonkers should also be able to expect that their next Mayor would avoid even the appearance of a connection to anyone with organized crime ties.”
