UPDATE 4 (SUN - 12 NOON) - Hurricane Irene Information for Yonkers

Yonkers_City_Hall The city of Yonkers is currently under a FLOOD WARNING issued by the National Weather Service. Hurricane and Tropical Storm Warnings have expired. 

Danger of high winds, falling trees and limbs, power outages and especially flooding persist. Residents are urged to take caution. 


CON EDISION POWER OUTAGES 

Con Edison is reporting 3,570 customers without power in Yonkers as of noon on Sunday. Con Edision has a manager stationed in the Emergency Operation Center who is coordinating with city agencies on prioritizing outage areas and getting them back online.

EMERGENCY STORM SHELTER REMAINS OPEN
The emergency storm shelter located at the Police Athletic League (PAL) will remain open throughout the day on Sunday to accommodate residents who have evacuated homes due to flooding. The shelter continues to be staffed by city of Yonkers and Red Cross personnel and has food, water and other necessities.

CITY PARKS REMAIN CLOSED
All City Parks remain closed throughout the day Sunday due to the danger of falling trees and limbs.   
 
STATE OF EMERGENCY REMAINS IN EFFECT
Mayor Amicone has declared a state of emergency for the city of Yonkers, effective 12:01 p.m. Saturday, August 27 through 12:00 noon on Thursday, September 1. The purpose of the state of emergency declaration is to allow city personnel redeployments to deal with the weather situation and to keep main roadways clear for emergency service vehicles. IMPORTANT: 911 is only for emergency calls involving life-threatening situations. 

General non-emergency calls and inquiries should be directed to 914-377-HELP (4357). Non-emergency police calls should be directed to 914-377-7900.     

Con Edison outages and service calls should be directed to 1-800-75-CONED (1-800-752-6633) or 1-877-870-6118 or ConEd.com.
 
EMERGENCY OPERATIONS CENTER REMAINS OPEN
As of 2:00 p.m. on Friday, the city of Yonkers Emergency Operations Center (EOC) has been activated. The EOC is the city's headquarters for all storm emergency responses. In addition to all city agencies and departments, the EOC allows the city to coordinate emergency responses with state and local governments, local hospitals and relief agencies, and public utilities (ConEd). CLOSURES & CANCELLATIONS
All Yonkers Parks Department programs have been cancelled through Monday, August 29.  

Office for the Aging home delivered meals have been cancelled for Sunday, August 28 and nutrition centers will be closed on Sunday as well.  
Residents should avoid downed power lines. Any downed power lines should be considered live. Downed power lines should be reported to the Yonkers Police Department at 914-377-7900 and to Con Edison at 1-800-752-6633.
TRANSPORTATION & PARKING
Alternate side parking has been suspended for Saturday, August 27; Sunday August, 28; and Monday August 29.
