Cuomo, Andrew

New law will protect homeowners and businesses from skyrocketing property tax hikes

PLEASANTVILLE, NY -- Governor Andrew M. Cuomo today traveled to Westchester County to sign New York's first property tax cap.

Mayor Amicone Vetoes Overtime Law Citing Legal Flaws

Amicone_Phil-postulating w hand Mayor Pledges to Work with City Council on Alternate Legislation

YONKERS, NY – June 30, 2011 --  Yonkers Mayor Phil Amicone today vetoed the Overtime Reduction Law sent to him earlier this month by the City Council, saying it would have been indefensible in court against impending legal challenges from the city's unions.

The mayor praised the Council for its "laudable" attempt to address the issue of overtime spending, particularly as it relates to the practice of pension padding --- uniformed personnel who increase their state pensions by working excessive overtime in their final year before retirement.

Ed Koch Commentary: Mr. President, Bring All of Our Soldiers In Afghanistan and Iraq Home, Now By ED KOCH

KOCH_Ed One June 24, 2011, President Barack Obama told our nation of his plans for withdrawing U.S. military forces from Afghanistan. He told us, “We will be able to remove 10,000 of our troops from Afghanistan by the end of this year, and we will bring home a total of 33,000 by next summer.” He went on to say, concerning the approximately 70,000 troops remaining that “By 2014, this process of transition [from combat to support] will be complete and the Afghan people will be responsible for their own security.” A few days before, on June 19th, in Afghanistan, the U.S. Ambassador to Afghanistan, Karl W. The Hezitorial: In the Dead of Night and in the Light of Day By HEZI ARIS

Ehezi_charicature Legislation demanded to set the City of Yonkers on a “balanced” course to win the validation of New York State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli’s signature required almost two hours of hurry and wait protocol. The meeting that was called for 4:30 p.m. would not take place until approximately 7:15 p.m., Thursday night, June 23, 2011. At that propitious time, the Yonkers City Clerk read off the many “tweaks” demanded by the New York State Legislature. It took less than 10 minutes to read each clause and vote on same without a word of explanation, a congratulatory statement, a sigh of relief, or for anyone to pass gas, unless it was silent. None of the Yonkers City Councilmembers said anything. They held their backroom discussions while the audience laughed at one alleged fraud after another. It was hilarious. Then again, it was at the expense of Yonkersites. Things don’t seem to change much in Yonkers after all.

YONKERS, NY – Yonkers Mayoral candidate Richard Martinelli offered the following statement in response to the New York State Senate's passage of gay marriage legislation.

Richard Martinelli said, "Tonight's vote to legalize gay marriage in New York State is wrong for our state, its families and the City of Yonkers.
