Astorino Permits Greed to Beget Deficits By HEZI ARIS

RYE, NY and WHITE PLAINS, NY -- Imagine a $2 to $5 million hemorrhage annually. Is it an anomaly or does government perpetuate the failure despite the outcry for prudence and fiscal responsibility? Imagine further that the $2 million plus burden is meant to degrade support for the entity as it is perceived to be burdened every year with accumulating debt that impacts Westchester County government as other financial concerns regress and repress the ability for the County to surmount its financial woes. As one contemplates the conundrum between promise and the growing financial hardships it exacerbates throughout the County overall, one must wonder why this financial burden cannot be cajoled from deficit to profit through commitment to its initial promise, followed by scrutiny to its present plight, and the subsequent plans to right the wrongs. This professed financial burden is made believable by make believe numerical entries in ledgers that do not reveal the hemorrhage. The intention for this “game” has many fathers. At this point it matters little who sired this alleged con. What matters now is whether Playland Amusement Park is suffering a contrived deficit or if it is in reality profitable. This telling will show that Playland is simply eviscerated by greed and design. Profit is being covered up.

New York Court System Violates Civil Service Laws By HEZI ARIS

Political Antics or Tough Times? There are things happening in the New York Court system, including the New Rochelle, White Plains, and Yonkers courts many of our readers are unaware. Political battles and skirmishes, exacerbated by budget cuts have caused over 400 State workers to be laid off. The issue revolves about the manner in which these firings took place, rather than the redundancies themselves. The New York Court system has allegedly violated New York State Civil Service Law. The New York State Court system designates employees among four categories. They are:

The Bronxville Memorial Day Committee is proud to announce the selection of our 89^th Grand Marshall, Arthur Miller, WWII veteran and lifelong Village resident.

 

Art is a graduate of the Trinity Pawling School, where he was first touched by the implications of a world war.  One of Art’s friends was called out of English class to be told that his brother had died at Pearl Harbor.

 

Art went on to enroll at Duke University, but his studies were cut short when he received his draft notice.

 

Three Arrested Over Report of Possible Child Abuse

YONKERS, NY -- On Friday May 27, 2011, at approximately 8:07 p.m., numerous units responded to an apartment at 5 Van Cortlandt Park Avenue on a report of possible child abuse. Investigation revealed that children inside of the home were exposed to “PCP” (Phencyclidine). Members of the Emergency Service Unit (E.S.U.) rendered immediate aid to some of the children inside of the apartment. Six children (all under the age of 5 years old) were taken to area hospitals for evaluation, and three children were found to have been exposed to PCP. Patrol Officers and Detectives at the scene observed the apartment to be in disarray and unkempt. After investigation at the scene, three individuals who were left with the care and control of the children were placed under arrest. Child Protective Service personnel were notified of the incident and they responded to the scene. One child is still in the hospital at this time and he was last reported in stable condition. Additional arrests and/or charges may follow and the Detective Division is continuing this investigation, anyone with additional information can call 914-377- 7724. Anywhere you go in America today, you will find statues and plaques in honor of those brave citizens who gave their lives in military service.

You’ll find these memorials in every small town and large city, mentioning places like Valley Forge, Gettysburg, Kettle Hill, St. Mihiel, Palau, Normandy, Inchon, Hue, Rumaila, Tora Bora, Fallujah.

Often you’ll see a list of names of the brave fallen.

But none of these plaques or statues — or all of them together — can truly convey what these brave Americans accomplished.

Their real memorial is all around us, because America and its freedoms are an idea.

The People have been blamed for this calamity. Yet The People are not to blame. The People have been fed lies and trash by the political parties whose only interest is patronage. It never was about governance for The People. The political parties played their roles well. They would kick one person in the shins to stymie their agenda because it spoke to The People and not the party bosses. As they stumbled, the “ Family and Friends Network” stand-in was moved forward to become the anointed one. The one The People did not find credible; the one whose baggage was laden with bad karma. But The People were never part of the equation. They were easily dismissed and shunned; kicked to the curb without regard.

Creation of Transitional Finance Authority Would Net $20 Million For Yonkers Schools In Crisis Yonkers, NY -- Yonkers Mayor Phil Amicone has submitted a revised plan to the City Council that would help avert hundreds of layoffs and program cuts at the Yonkers Public Schools by creating a Transitional Finance Authority (TFA), allowing the city to restructure some of its debt and free up $20 million that would go the Board of Education in the FY 2012 Budget.

The one-word summary of the intimate revue, The Best Is Yet to Come: The Music of Cy Coleman, is quite monolithically CHARMING. I have said it before and say it again: Stephen Sondheim and James Goldman’s musical, Follies, is one of that tiny handful that can legitimately contend for best ever. It was so much ahead of its time at its 1971 premiere that most of us critics were left behind. Since then it has had enough American and British stagings for all of us to recognize and revel in its greatness.
