Yonkers, NY – On the evening of March 23, 2011 at the Polish Community Center in Yonkers, Stephen Cerrato, surrounded by more than 125 supporters, announced his candidacy for Yonkers City Council, 5th District. Mr. Cerrato, a life-long Yonkers resident, spoke about his many reasons for running, including his concerns over the city’s deficit of over $90 million.Cerrato, an attorney and Yonkers small business owner, said that improving the difficult economic situation in Yonkers would require change on the Council and fundamental changes in the way City government operates.
A fresh voice and new leadership; that is what Stephen Cerrato promised the people of the 5th district. He has vowed to engage the people of Yonkers in the governmental process by holding town hall meetings in order to hear his constituents concerns and inform them of the City’s issues. Cerrato pledged to continue this open dialogue with the people if elected this fall.
“We need elected officials to lead by example. They must make sacrifices in City Hall in order to reduce waste and start saving money”, says Cerrato, who is committed to addressing City Hall’s spending habits. Cerrato is also focused on Yonkers getting its fair share of revenue from future development throughout the City. He says, this will serve to relieve the pressure of having to raise taxes.
He holds a Juris Doctor degree from Pace Law School and a Bachelors of Science in accounting from Manhattan College. He resides in the heart of the 5th district with his wife Angela-Joy Lifrieri-Cerrato, also a life-long Yonkers resident, and their two children, Faith, 3, and Stephen, 1. Stephen and Angela have made a conscious decision to raise their children in the city they love.
