Yonkers, NY, September 30, 2010 -- On 09-29-10 at approximately 10:44 p.m., 2nd Precinct units responded to 651 Bronx River Road on a report of an armed robbery with a gun. A 25 year old male city resident related that he was approached by two black males wearing black ski masks and black hooded sweatshirts. One of the suspects displayed what appeared to be a gun and the victim was thrown to the ground. The victim related that he was then struck in the left temple with a firearm, and his cell phone and keys were removed. The suspects then fled southbound on Bronx River Road in a black SUV, which was driven by a third male. 2nd Precinct units canvassed the area with the assistance of the Westchester County Police Aviation Unit, but the suspects were not located. On 09-29-10 at approximately 9:29 p.m., the Yonkers Police Department assisted the Westchester County Police Department in locating a 1994 BMW convertible, which was wanted for traffic violations. A Westchester County Police Aviation unit advised Yonkers Police units that the vehicle was on McLean Avenue. A 2nd Precinct unit en route to the location was struck by the suspect vehicle at McLean Avenue and Lee Avenue. After striking the police vehicle, the suspect vehicle then struck two parking meters and a 2003 Nissan, which was occupied by five people. The suspect vehicle was travelling eastbound on the westbound side of McLean Avenue when it struck the police vehicle. The suspect (later identified as James Ferris, a 39 year old white male who resides at 40 Tulip Drive in Brewster) was taken into custody by the Westchester County Police Department. Investigation revealed that the suspect had a suspended drivers license. Four occupants of the 2003 Nissan were treated and released at a local hospital. The 2nd Precinct officer driving the police vehicle which was struck was treated at a local hospital and placed off duty due to the injuries.
