Yonkers, NY, September 23, 2010 -- Yesterday evening, the Yonkers Democratic City Committee affirmed its support for the slate of Democratic candidates that will be anchored by State Senator Andrea Stewart-Cousins. Having formally endorsed Stewart-Cousins as the petitioning period began, the Yonkers Democratic City Committee elected its leadership last night, and urged their members to commit all of their efforts to ensuring that the City Democratic slate is elected in November.
“Andrea Stewart-Cousins is a true star of the Yonkers Democratic Party. Andrea became a household name across our State when she achieved one of the most dramatic upset victories in New York’s history. Across her district and among her colleagues, she is known for her progressive record and for never giving up until she gets positive results. Andrea is a standard-bearer for our Party, and as Democrats, we are proud to support and endorse her re-election to the State Senate,” said Symra Brandon, Yonkers Democratic City Committee Chair.
“Working with Senator Stewart-Cousins has been an honor and a privilege,” said newly elected Vice-Chair Al Soriano. “As a new Executive Board Member of the Yonkers Democratic City Committee, I look forward to furthering this relationship and growing the Democratic Party this November. The Yonkers Democratic City Committee is fortunate to have Andrea Stewart-Cousins as our voice within the New York State Democratic Party.”
Also elected as a Vice Chair was Carlos Moran who said, “Andrea Stewart-Cousins has shown that she is a great leader, partner and friend. We must make sure that we elect more Democrats like Senator Stewart-Cousins, now and into the future. I am proud to endorse Andrea for re-election along with the rest of the Yonkers Democratic City Committee.”
“Senator Andrea Stewart-Cousins is a tireless statewide leader for reform and change. She has also been a relentless advocate for Yonkers and the rest of her district in the most fiscally challenging time in our lifetime,” Fourth Vice Chair Shelley Mayer said.
“Andrea understands the real problems faced by our community and her constituents and will not stop until their issues are addressed. She is one of the most influential and respected voices of our Party and in our Legislature, and we will work tirelessly to ensure that she continues to serve as our State Senator.”
