While Intent May be Good, Law Gives Police New Powers to Cite Property & Business Owners 

Yonkers, NY, September 30, 2010 --  On September 28, 2010, the Yonkers City Council, by a vote of 4-3, approved a public nuisance abatement law that, regardless of conviction for such offenses, grants the police department the ability “to impose sanctions and penalties” for public nuisance violations that occur within the premises of any Yonkers building.

Yonkers Police Department Blotter - September 30, 2010 BY Det. Sgt. Patrick McCormack

YPD_patch Yonkers, NY, September 30, 2010 -- On 09-29-10 at approximately 10:44 p.m., 2nd Precinct units responded to 651 Bronx River Road on a report of an armed robbery with a gun.  A 25 year old male city resident related that he was approached by two black males wearing black ski masks and black hooded sweatshirts.  One of the suspects displayed what appeared to be a gun and the victim was thrown to the ground.  The victim related that he was then struck in the left temple with a firearm, and his cell phone and keys were removed.  The suspects then fled southbound on Bronx River Road in a black SUV, which was driven by a third male.  2nd Precinct units canvassed the area with the assistance of the Westchester County Police Aviation Unit, but the suspects were not located.  Anyone with information can contact the Yonkers Police Detective Division at 914-377-7724.

COnservative Party of NY John Folkerts and Gail Burns Deny Being Served by a restraining Order

Yonkers, NY, September 30, 2010 -- Hugh Fox, Jr., Vice-Chair of the Conservative Party in Yonkers, in a self-claimed “effort to bring some legality to the election process,” today asserts he has  obtained a restraining order to stop John Folkerts, Chair of the Yonkers Conservative Party and Gail Burns, Chair of the Westchester Conservative Party from conducting what he claims is an “illegal reorganization” of the Yonkers Conservative Party that was scheduled to be held today, September 30, 2010, at the Polish Community Center at 11:00 am.  “In an effort to disenfranchise conservatives, Mr. Folkerts sent notices last week inviting Conservativs Party members that participated in the election for district leaders on Primary Day, September 14, 2010, whether they won or lost their elections,” writes Hugh Fox, Jr. in his emailed press release.

Yonkers Receives More than $200,000 to Complete Flood Mitigation Project

Yonkers, NY, September 29, 2010 -- Deputy Majority Leader and State Senator Jeff Klein (D-Bronx/Westchester) joined President of the 2nd Precinct Community Council Lorraine Palais, President of the Hyatt Association Larry Wilson, Councilman Dennis Shepherd and Yonkers residents to present a grant to The City of Yonkers for more than $200,000 on Wednesday to be used for the final phase of necessary flood mitigation.
