Jump In! Tibbets Brook Pool Opens Today

TibbettsBrookPool_160x120  Yonkers, NY -- If you're looking to cool off this weekend at a public pool, there's no better place than the newly-renovated Tibbetts Brook Pool.  All of the county’s community pools are open for the season starting today and remain open daily. Last year, the County Board approved a bond act for $9.25 million to fund the new pool complex at Tibbetts Brook Park. The current Yonkers pool is approximately 80 years old, had never received major renovations and was in a state of acute disrepair.

The renovations include a series of smaller water play areas, including a lazy river with sprays, water slides, an aquatic playground, new decking and a new concession/filter building. New piping and filter infrastructure will be state-of-the-art, remaking the pool as environmentally friendly, safe and energy efficient as current technology allows.  “The Tibbetts Brook Pool is another big example of how the county enhances the quality of life of our residents,” said Board Chairman Ken Jenkins (D-Yonkers).  “This investment at Tibbetts Brook Pool by the Board of Legislators improves the environment and enhances the quality of life for Westchester residents.  The construction work and added employment opportunities are vital for our region and the renovated pool will bring more users to Tibbetts Brook Park.”

All pools are open Labor Day, the last day of the season. A Park Pass is required for admittance to all pools except Playland.  Swimming hours, except for Playland are 11 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. through August 15, and noon to 6:30 p.m. from August 16 through Labor Day. Hours at Playland are 11 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. all season. There is no admittance one half-hour before closing at pools. “I have been a county legislator, representing south-west Yonkers since 2002, and since that time, we have been planning this wonderful project at Tibbetts Brook Park. This project will provide much-needed work for local contractors and new jobs for residents,” said Legislator Jose Alvarado (D-Yonkers). “This mini-water park will be a welcomed addition within the community.”

“Tibbetts Brook Park has been an integral part of Yonkers all my life, and now, with these improvements, our kids can make their own wonderful memories in this beautiful setting,” said Minority Whip Gordon Burrows (R-Yonkers).  “Tibbetts Brook Park is a beautiful facility and I’m delighted that the pool is receiving the much-needed renovations required to make the complex more accessible to all Westchester County residents,” said Legislator Bernice Spreckman (R-Yonkers).

Jenkins noted that the new state of the art facility would not only offer local families a great place to go but would also increase attendance and revenues that will be used toward paying down the cost of building the new facility.

seams like we have money to make a water park, a turf soccer field for the illegals to play soccer at Pelton Park? but no money for cops or firemen. What idiot is doing the math at city hall???

It's a county pool, done with county money. Every other community gets county improvements, would you suggest we refuse ours? It's for the kids for goodness sakes, but that probably doesn't matter to you. After all the union released rats at city hall, when there are little kids around and the council president did nothing about it.

Wait until the neighborhood around Tibbets finds out that the county is letting Non-Westchester residents use the pool for a small fee. Can you say Donde'Esta Tibbets? Guess we are getting Orchard Beach North

It's not a pool. It's a zoo because all of the animals that will come from all over westchester and the Bronx Yeah I'm sure it's going to be packed with Yonkers tax payers. Free housing. Free food. Free medical. Free childcare. And now a free water park for the animals and you wonder where your tax dollars go. And for u uniformed where do u think the westchester gets the money for the water park. Mine and your tax dollars. P

9 Million dollars of investment into Yonkers by the County, much needed construction jobs, employment opportunities for our teens in the summer - Westchester County is the largest youth employer.

This has nothing to do with the silliness in City hall.

Anyone that tells you money can only be used for this and not that is either lying to you or they are too dumb to be in politics...... it's county money only to be used for waterparks, or Yeah we're spending 50 Million dollars to dig up the river in the ghetto, but that's federal money that can only be used for that... BULL SHlT

Money is money, it all comes from our taxes, It's all sitting in one big pot in washington or in albany, we should have a say in what it is spent on. Take a poll in Yonkers and see if people would rather daylight a river (most rediculous thing i've ever heard) or put more cops, firemen and teachers to work. Ask the family of that poor boy who was just murdered yesterday on Locust Hill Ave.

How much of that $50 million is going straight into someones pockets? How much is coming back under the table to the politicians?

Give me a break. Why don't we spend $500 on shovels from home depot, hand them out to the mexicans on Yonkers Ave and make them "Day light the river" one day a week in exchange for not deporting them. Or how bout all the welfare recipients? You want your check? Get out there and dig!

Tibbetts Pool has been packed for years and did not need the expenditure of millions of taxpayer dollars to attract more pool goers. This expenditure was the Andy Spano recycling game of taxpayer money going to construction firms, who in turn make political contributions to Andy Spano and fellow Democrats. You all better hope that the work done, was not shoddy and in need of major repairs shortly. The only good Democrat is a defeated Democrat.

to 0805: How many of the construction jobs went to Yonkers residents? How many of those jobs went to returning Afghan & Irag veteran's ?.

Throw another barrel of chlorine in that pool!

I was there yesterday and it was beautiful. First of all you need a westchester county park pass. Admission is $10 for adults $5 for kids with a pass. They do NOT allow camps in! Good idea! If you do not have a county park pass you need a license that states you are a resident of westchester and the admission is then $15 adults. Most families cannot afford those prices if you are needy and illegals don't have the proper documentation. I saw many nice families there from the mclean ave vicinity and not many undesirables at all. Also, a solid police presence was there and tight security. I was truly pleasantly surprised at how nice it was.

YOU MUST BE A RACIST F--- IM PROUD TO BE HISPANIC YOU MUST HAVE NOTHING TO DO BUT COMPLAIN THIS IS A LAND OF OPPURTUNITY.DON'T HATE ON HISPANICS WE ARE HERE TO STAY SO LIVE WITH IT.NOT ALL HISPANICS ARE POOR I AM A SUCESFUL BUSNESMAN PROBALY MAKING THREE TIMES THAT YOU ARE MAKING.YOU ARE PROBALLY A DEAD BEAT DAD THAT HAS NO MORALS AND BLAME EVERYBODY FOR MISHAPS KEEP THE FOCUS ON YOURSELF AND NOT ON EVERYBODY ELSE AND IT ISN'T ORCHARD BEACH NORTH ITS ORCHARD BEACH SOUTH

The new water park looks like it could be fun -for a while, and entertaining, but it does not look like one can swim there. The spaces appear to be too small and circuitous for lap swimming and the depth is too shallow at 2'8". This disappoints and saddens me that we have lost the opportunity to swim and for children to learn to swim. Wasn't Tibbets pool the largest public pool in the country originally? This is an especially curious design decision to happen at a time when we are supposedly so concerned by children's lack of exercising and the meteoric rise of diabetes and obesity. What's up with this?

Regina,

I couldn't agree with you more! We took the kids 2 days this week and we really enjoyed it. Seems like a few people who commented have no clue what their talking about.

This goes out to ignorant racist only (white, republican, tea party, palin, limbaugh, beck, o'tool loving losers). Let's remember this is a country of immigrants. Unless you're Native American, you have no right to disparage against immigrants. Your ancestors at one time or another were immigrants. Also, if an immigrant that has no skills and can't speak the language can take your job...well you have a BS job. Learn some new skills (especially Spanish) and stop hating. Also, Latino are or will soon be the majority and were are learning your businesses from the inside out. Can you say...HERE TO STAY. Thanks for the pool biatch.

I couldn't have said it any better Jose!!

For starters it is a county park and therefore a county pool. It always has been. Yes, your county tax dollars paid for it. And as a resident of the opposite end of the park (near the baseball fields), believe me we have many people getting off the bus on McLean and walking into the park via our street. Thankfully our street is permit parking only so at least we get to park on our own street.
As a Yonkers resident you always had to pay for the old pool. Back in the day when the old pool was new Westchester County residents had a permit but still had to pay a small fee. Of all the info I'm reading about this new pool and water slide/rafting park, I am not seeing an admission price. So what is the admission price?

Hey dude not all conservatives are what you say or think. Maybe it's you who needs to know what you're talking about before you speak. You're absolutely correct - this is a country of immigrants, my grandparents included. But you're just as much a bigot as the other guy if you can make such negative remarks about half the population. Conservatives, Republicans, whatever - all good people. And by the way I speak 3 languages, Spanish included.

why so much anger and frustration being displayed over a pool( a man made body of water). There are so much more important and life threating issues to discuss, such as the oil spill crisis in the gulf(a god made body of water). wake up people. get over the new pool, really, its not that serious.

Go drink more Kool-Aid, sir. You haven't had an original thought in your life. Save yourself from the socialist indoctrination that you've clearly started undergoing already. The Left is the repository for racists.

Go to a tea party before you slam them. You're being intolerant yourself, you hypocrite. I bet you don't know a single Tea Party member.

By the way, when your taxes go up next year, don't complain - it's because the tax cuts that Bush put in place expired, and your beloved Obama won't reinstate them.

just so you know. I dont know why you dont know. The pool is not free. There is an admission. Usually you need to hold a parks pass (which are not easy to come by- three forms of id needed with your westchester address on it). Even with the pass you still have to pay per person.
Tax dollars are used to better the place we live in. If you are so pissed off about your tax dollars going to a pool... go check it out and enjoy it. The pool has been there for a long time... it was in horrible condition and now it is beautiful. Actually it can bring buisiness into Yonkers- which Yonkers desperately needs.

I live in Scarsdale and we have Saxon woods pool. I dont complain that people come to our BEAUTIFUL community to use our pool. People deserve to get away from the ghetto and beat the heat.

My, my, my...a very hate filled and racist comments expressed here...Tibbets pool is a very nice place to be. What about something uplifting for a change...after all, all of us are just passing through on this earth...

To the one who lives in SCARSDale, that has Saxon woods pool why do you imply that people must have come from a ghetto to attend your pool at Saxon woods...you or another might live in a non-getto area such as Scarsdale (very nice) but your thoughts, concepts, might be gettoish..hmm...(I have to look up getto)Is that a place where ethnic, or poor people live? I came accross some of those but they live happy, non-hating, hard working, respectful lives, lives that one would want to emulate (I think that's the word).

I don't care what color or race or religion you are. Your spelling sucks, as does your grammar. Some business man you must be.

THANK YOU THAT BASTERED NEED TO BE TOLD HE SHOULD HAVE BEEN A ASHAMED OF WHAT HE SAID

I USED TO GO TO TIBBETS POOL ALONG TIME AGO IT WAS IN NEED OF AN UPGRADE, I HAVEN'T SEEN IT YET BUT I THINK I WILL AND SEE FOR MYSELF.
