Albany, NY, June 30, 2010 -- Today, Senator Andrea Stewart-Cousins (D/WF – 35th District) announced that two pieces of legislation (S7190 and S7189) she introduced to provide additional aid to the Yonkers City School District passed in the Senate.
Senate bill 7190, if enacted into law, would provide $4.8 million i additional aid to the District for its successful full day Universal Pre-Kindergarten program. Senate bill 7189 would provide a one-time payment of $3.9 million to address the dramatic increase in enrollment from 2008-09 to 2009-2010.

These problems have been aggravated by the MTA's service cuts necessitated by its substantial deficit which, in part, is the result of reduced appropriations by the state legislature.

Today, June 30th, the Yonkers Fire Department sponsors a Blood Drive that will be conducted at the PAL located at 127 North Broadway in Yonkers. Even up until the end of the fiscal crisis where the Fire Dept is losing 36 firefighters and the closing of two fire companies, we chose to keep serving the public by keeping our commitment for the needed blood drive. Many of the donors will be those firefighters that will be laid off today. The blood drive began at 9:00 a.m. and will conclude at 5: p.m..

After the recent coyote attack of a 6 year old girl in Rye, New York, the Greenburgh Police Department has been receiving many calls reporting the sighting of coyotes throughout all areas of the Town. Many residents are also inquiring what can be done to remove them from the populated areas of the Town.
