Yonkers, NY -- March 31, 2010 -- Rand Commercial Services (RCS) yesterday formally closed a $14 million sale on the 100 years old Jewish Guild for the Blind’s Yonkers campus.
The property was purchased by Westchester ALP Property, LLC, a managing company specializing in properties hosting assisted living and special adult care facilities.

Yonkers, NY -- March 31, 2010 -- In October of 2008, the Yonkers Police Department Uniform Review Committee met to make recommendations concerning the current police uniform. The committee was comprised of supervisory and non-supervisory personnel who conducted research, interviews and surveys to identify potential improvements to the Department’s uniform. The committee consulted with several different vendors and also had to consider various collective bargaining agreements in making their recommendations. In August of 2009 the Uniform Review Committee submitted a final report containing numerous recommended changes to the Police Commissioner. One of these recommendations was the adding of nameplates to the Department uniform. A revised uniform policy is currently near completion.

Yonkers, NY -- March 29, 2010 -- On 03-27-10 at approximately 1:03 a.m., 3rd Precinct units responded to the area of Highland Avenue and Jackson Street on a report of shots fired. A 19 year old male city resident was located on the sidewalk with a gunshot wound to his back. The officers immediately aired a description of two black males observed running in the area and responding units canvassed the area for the suspects. Emergency Service Unit officers rendered aid to the victim at the scene, and he was subsequently transported to an area trauma center where he underwent surgery for his injuries. The victim was last reported to be in stable condition.

Yonkers, NY -- March 29, 2010 -- The Yonkers Police Department is lucky to have Helio Camargo, a new auxiliary police recruit. He recently exhibited his heroism when he pulled a man, trapped within his vehicle, burning out of control, saving him to live another day. Helio responded without hesitation. While some would drive by not knowing what to do, Helio ran to the burn car and saved a life.

Yonkers City Council President Chuck Lesnick and Yonkers City Councilman and Education Chairman Wilson Terrero (District-2) attended the Yonkers Board of Education (YBoE) meeting held Wednesday, March 24, 2010. It was at that meeting that Mssrs Lesnick and Terrero suggested that they, supported by Yonkers Majority Leader Patricia McDow (District-1) had framed an approach by which the YBoE could move forward on capital Improvement projects it requested for rebuilding the education district’s decaying infrastructure.

Will Library, located at 1500 Central Park Avenue. The flyer does not specify whether the theme of the evening will center exclusively on the mid-year budget deficit divulged by Mayor Amicone in the $3 million range yet contested by NYS Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli to be upwards of $7 million, or will center on Mayor Amicone’s Projected 2010 -2011 Budget burdened under the weight of his expression for a projected $109.5 million deficit.

Yonkers, NY -- March 26, 2010 -- On 03-24-10 at approximately 3:46 p.m., 4th Precinct units responded to Sacred Heart High School on a report of a robbery. A 14 year old student related that he was with two friends in front of 122 Lake Avenue when they were approached by five males in front of 122 Lake Avenue. The five suspects demanded money and a cell phone from the victims. The victims were subsequently chased through Lennon Park and they were able to escape to Sacred Heart School. A 16 year old male was subsequently placed under arrest and charged with Attempted Robbery 2nd degree.
