Yonkers Police Department Blotter - September 17, 2009 By Detective Sergeant Patrick McCormack
Yonkers, NY -- On 09-17-09 at approximately 9:00a.m., members of the Yonkers Police Intelligence Unit executed a search warrant at 55 Lockwood Road in Cortlandt Manor. The search warrant was the result of an ongoing investigation involving multiple law enforcement agencies. Members of the Yonkers Police Emergency Services Unit, Westchester County District Attorney’s Office, and the Westchester County Department of Public Safety – Bomb Squad also participated in the execution of the search warrant. Investigators seized numerous items from the location including:
* 14 rifles
* Approximately 1,000 rounds of ammunition
* Commercial fireworks
* 8 I.E.D.’s (Improvised Explosive Devices)
- (4) 2 ½” diameter devices
- (4) 1 ½” diameter devices
Gary R. Burstell Sr., a 52 year old male who resides at 55 Lockwood Road in Cortlandt Manor was arrested at the scene and was charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon 3rd Degree. He will be arraigned at Yonkers City Court on 09-18-09. Gary Burstell Jr. was detained at the scene, but was subsequently released.
YPD should focus on south yonkers not cortlandt.

WHAT WAS THE REASON FOR THE YPD BEING IN CORTLAND PLEASE EXPLAIN DET DOSENT CORLANT HAVE THERE OWN ESU I AM SURE OTHER POLICE AGENCYS COULD HAVE EXECUTED THAT WARRENT

First of all Cortland doesn't even have a police department, it is patrolled jointly by the Westchester County Police and the State Police. Secondly this was a yonkers investigation, if you take 2 seconds to read the newspaper you would have seen that. The crime occured in Yonkers so it would have been up to the Yonkers Police to obtain the warrant and serve it. Also for those keyboard commandos out there who apparently don't read the paper or watch TV you would have seen officers from multiple agencies were there working at the scene.

I know for a fact that this guy had 40 cartons of untaxed cigarettes, but they couldn't charge him with them because he smoked every last one of them while ESU was devising a plan to make entry into his house
