Marie J. Sweet (nee Torrence) Tuman, 72 of Yonkers,
NY. On Saturday, April 25, 2009 a true angel on earth received
her wings, Marie passed surrounded by her loving family, after a courageous
battle with cancer. Beloved mother of Andrew C. (Lucia) Tuman, and
stepdaughter Deborah (Richard) Brandt. Cherished grandmother of Jessica and
Keith Tuman and Richard and Christopher Brandt. Loving sister of Florence
("Tookie") (Albert) Stasiak, and many nieces and nephews.
Predeceased by her son Edward Adam Tuman Jr., mother Marie Torrence, and her
sister Alice D'Aqulia. Marie was known affectionately as Grandma Sweet to
many, she was born and raised in Yonkers, NY
by her mother Marie Torrence, and her father Floyd Torrence. Marie, also known
as Susie, graduated Commerce High
School and worked for the City of Yonkers
most of her life, retiring as a Supervisor of the Yonkers Water Billing Dept.,
where she received many accommodations and was loved by her co-workers. After
retiring, Marie traveled the world; always making time for a neighbor and fellow parish members at St. Denis R. C. Church, where she enjoyed serving on the
Parish Council. Marie was truly special and unique, loved by all she met,
always ready with a smile and believed in hugs, not a hand shake! She will be
truly missed by many. Visitation at the Flynn Memorial Home Inc. (325 South
Broadway) Monday 7-9 pm, and Tuesday 2-4 and 7-9 pm. Mass of Christian Burial
will be celebrated Wednesday, 10 AM at St. Denis R. C. Church. Interment at St.
Joseph's Cemetery, Yonkers, NY Flynn Memorial Home
