To be Used for Upgrades to Field Command Center for City Police Department
MOUNT VERNON, NY -- Senator Jeff Klein (D-Westchester/Bronx) (pictured) today announced a $100,000 grant he secured for the City of Mount Vernon for upgrades to the Police Department’s Field Command Center. The command center is an emergency command vehicle used to coordinate on-site response teams for emergencies. U“This grant will go a long way toward helping the City of Mount Vernon and our brave men and women in the police force fight crime and respond to emergencies,” said Senator Klein. “It is imperative that those who serve and protect are fully equipped with the best tools possible to carry out their jobs for the benefit of all Mount Vernon residents.”

Klein was joined by Mayor Clinton Young, Police Commissioner David Chong, Susan Granata – President of the Fleetwood Neighborhood Association, and other representatives from the Police Department and community.
“At this critical time, when the economy is suffering, and desperation begins to creep into people’s lives, the role of the police to maintain order in our community is taking center stage,” said Mayor Young. “This Field Command Center will serve a great purpose in allowing our officers to respond to emergencies much quicker. On behalf of all of the citizens of Mount Vernon, I would like to thank Senator Klein for his continued dedication toward bringing in resources to our community.”
The Field Command Center was also used to help out in the regional effort at Ground Zero following the terrorist attacks on 9/11. In such emergencies when lives are at stake, this invaluable resource in emergency response communications can be the deciding factor.
"The men and women of the Mount Vernon Police Department greatly appreciate Senator Klein's effort in securing money for much needed upgrades to this valuable piece of equipment. It is an essential tool in today's modern crime fighting and counter-terrorism efforts."
The 9 year-old mobile command center will have it's engine re-tuned as well as having its camera surveillance capabilities and inter-operability communications upgraded with satellite phone systems, radio upgrades, and night vision enhancements.
