YONKERS, NY – The Journal News has tabulated a database of all Yonkers Public Schools employees in total earnings last year (http://www.tjnnews.com/salary/salaries_yks_07.php). This database allows searches by location, title and name, and includes breakdowns of overtime and regular pay. I've been in businesses where they tell you to stop at 40 hours. It can be done. Things do "fall into place." A lot of those people idle their time just so they can "need" more than 40 hours to do their work. They should be held accountable for completion of matters within 40 hours. Businesses hold their employees accountable, so why not the BOE? 9million in overtime is not successful at all. It shouldn't even be 500 thousand.

nyc schools chancellor salary is 161K with 25x the size of yonkers - pierazio is way overpaid and the school performances are low.

Forget about the BOE. Their salaries are conservative compared to the Police and Firemen. Did anyone take a look at what they are making?
How does a person make 150k in overtime? That is a salary in itself! These people are making in OVERTIME what the higher paid folks at the BOE are making in their total earnings. And people scream that the teachers are over paid?

The teacher ARE ovepaid, when you consider summers off, many holiday breaks and so on. They also have a shorter work day.

But union OT abuse is dreadful too on the city-side.

How can you compare teachers saleries to cops and firemen....cops and fireman work 12 months a year, not 10 months or about 190 days a year. No wonder a friend told me it was the best part time job he ever had...$1000,000+ for 10 months, give me a break

100K + A YEAR PART TIME TEACHER LOL

All teachers are part time, and very well paid. A cop works 260 days a year, all hours,day and night, weekends and holidays. You cant compare a cops job with a teacher.

Hey if you all think it is perfectly alright that a Police Lieutenant working in an office should be able to make 150k in overtime alone or people with a HS degree making a six figure salary right out the gate then you deserve to be fleeced by those unions.

There is only one person making a salary in the 200k range in the BOE. The Police department has 31 captains, lieutenants and detectives making 200k or more. But hey…they go to work 12 months a year…so that’s perfectly fine.

The OT abuse is terrible by the cops, and fire too. And 456 is full of rip offs. But the laughing teachers won't be laughing when the big layoffs hit the Board of Ed. And they will hit the city-side too. All around, it will be a necessary trimming of the herds of excess bloat, and there is a lot of bloat and abuse that can be trimmed. Trimmed hell. Cleavered.

When did it become vogue to bash civil servants who actually work for a living? Only in this ass backwards state would bloggers get on line and bash working people.

I would like to see the Journal News do a story on all the tax dollars that are spent on social services for illegal aliens or on lazy mopes who pop out baby after baby to up their welfare check.

I don't understand why working people are being called out onto the carpet when there is so much worse waste at every level of government in this state.

When OT is being "directed" to those close to retirement to boost their pensions --that is when there needs to be a stop to the OT abuse.

The law must be changed to stop this abuse.

Look at all the police making the large OT --they were all hired around 1979 and are due to put their retirement papers in.

The general public does not understand what is iccuring here.

5:37....excellent point! I can not and will not bash anyone who gets up in the morning and works for a living. If fellow bloggers think that these jobs are a cake walk they can either take the test to join the YFD, DPW or YPD or go back to school, past tests and apply to be a teacher.

When a superintendent is as ineffective as Pierorazio you get many "schools in need of improvement". How many schools have come off the list since he started in Dec. 2005????? All he keeps doig is adding ineffective schools. When will they dump him......when all the schoolsmake the list???

Articles and news on teachers and salary always bring out the haters. Truth is, teachers' salaries are a bargain complared to cops and fire. Where is the overtime abuse at the BOE?? There isn't - because it is capped at $15K. Try capping a cop or fireman. They'll bust a cap - in you!THose who incessantly whine about 10 mos. a year, etc., should have went to college and gotten that Masters' degree - which, by the way, police anf fire aren't required to have. Let me earn $100K in OT w/o a Masters'.

Fire them all and start over. A new approach is needed to turn the school system around.
