Hon. Nick Spano Will Not Seek New York Senate Seat
YONKERS, NY -- After months of speculation, former New York State Senator Nick Spano today announced he will not run for the 35th State Senate District, a seat he held for 20 years from 1986-2006.
“I consider myself fortunate to have been given the privilege of serving the people of Westchester County for 28 years, Spano said. I started my career in the State Assembly as a 25-year-old novice and left as a senior member of the Senate Majority. It is something that very few people will ever experience, and I am profoundly grateful for the thousands of individuals throughout Westchester who remain loyal and supportive of me.”

Continuing, Mr. Spano said, “ I am proud of the record I
left behind in the State Senate, having been successful year after year
securing record amounts of education aid for our schools, as well as
preserving the outstanding delivery of health care in the Hudson
Valleys premier hospital, the Westchester County Medical Center. I am
also extremely proud of my work on behalf of those people who suffer
from mental illness or were born with a developmental disability, and I
will continue to be a vocal proponent to improve the quality of care
provided to this deserving population. That being said, it is my
intention to work closely with the leaders and organizations in
Westchester to help them promote their agendas.”
“I will consider this period of time in my life a sabbatical from
public service, one that I hope allows me to "smell the roses, enjoy my
family, and accomplish all the things that I never had time to do while
serving in a personally rewarding, but all consuming, career in
government,” concluded the Honorable Nick Spano.
Upon hearing of Mr. Spano final decision on the issue, Gail
Burns, Chair, of the Westchester County Conservative Party said, “I
don’t think it is any secret how I feel about Senator Spano, both
professionally and personally. Having worked with Nick Spano for
many years, I can tell you that he is both a great man and leader; I know he
will continue to make contributions to make our community better. While I
respect his decision, I can tell you that his voice is greatly missed in
the State Capitol, especially
by those of us who live in the 35th Senate District.

"That being said, it is my intention to work closely with the leaders and organizations in Westchester to help them promote their agendas.”

Lobbying money, at least. But with the state going broke, that cupboard might be bare for awhile.

SO HE WON'T SEEK RE-ELECTION. THESE POLITICIANS ARE ALL CUT FROM THE SAME CLOTH. A PRESS RELEASE TO SAY YOUR NOT RUNNING. WHY WASTE YOUR TIME. NOBODY CARES.

On the LoHUd Blog:
Former state Sen. Nicholas Spano just called to say he has decided NOT to run for his old seat this fall, leaving the GOP in search of another candidate to take on Democrat Andrea Stewart-Cousins.
“This was a very difficult decision.” Spano, 54, told Politics on the Hudson. “As my father would always tell me, never go back, always move forward.”
Spano confessed that the 35th Senate District’s changing demographics and strong Democratic enrollment played a role in his decision not to run. But he insisted the key factor was his desire to “smell the roses” a bit longer.
“I will focus my attention right now on things I’ve never been able to do before, like spend time with my wife, my kids and the family,” Spano said.
Spano’s decision leaves Mary Mahon, a Hartsdale lawyer and former Long Island Rail Road official, as the only announced candidate. However, party officials expect that Yonkers City Councilman John Murtagh will soon enter the race.
Another potential candidate is fellow Councilman Liam McLaughlin, a close ally of former Mayor John Spencer.

McLaughlin --don't make me laugh
Pathetic

Liam will be done in by his obnoxiousness, his bullying, and his Spencer tie, which is "thisclose." And if his opponents get their hands on that tape of Liam frothing at the mouth tearing apart Zisman's report and defending the eventual felon Angelo Petrone on News 12....what an ad!
Liam did all that for Spencer, not Amicone. It was Spencer who hired Petrone.

Not to mention how he berates and makes snide remarks about community people.
Yeah a true champion of the people.
He needs to go away --so glad for term limits!!!

Let's all not forget that it was Amicone that went against the wishes of the people and extended the terms of both Barbato and McLaughlin.
Perhaps a legal challenge will unseat them both.

Yonkers is sure full of lunatics and JOE GUY IS ONE OF THEM.

McLaughlin also supported Vinni Restiano in the last primary, and donated to her campaign.

When I saw Murtagh on the Fox Morning Show, I was proud that he was from Yonkers. Very good interview he certainly would make a good Senator.

Today's Journal News: Annabi told she faces possible indictment for mortgage fraud. Her lawyer Murray Richman meets with Feds, says she didn't do it.

murtagh's possible run is a pure publicity stunt, he will do anything to get on the camera or in the news, he does not have much of a law practice after stealing from bob lunney.

MURTAGH WON'T BEAT STEWART COUSINS.

8:51 Post Same old lie with no facts, like a disbarment or suspension and no criminal charges ever filed.John Murtagh is a classy guy, who is unfortunately in a political cesspool called Yonkers politics.
Posted by: | May 09, 2008 at 09:44 AM
The Richard Hoffman types will be crawling out of the woodwork to support Liam. The old Jereis gang, Faulkner too probably. And Spencer, Spring-Spencer and Restiano. What a lineup! Could even resemble a police lineup.
