Assemblyman Spano Works with Transportation Officials to Restore Lights on Cross County Parkway

Spano_mike_3 YONKERS, NY -- Assemblyman Mike Spano (D, Inc, C – Yonkers), member of the Assembly’s Transportation Committee has been working with the New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT)  last fall to see the re-illumination of the street lights on the Cross County Parkway.

Assemblyman Spano who noticed a problem with the lighting while driving on the Cross County Parkway contacted the NYSDOT last November over the very hazardous situation. “I travel on the Cross County Parkway everyday so I understand, first hand, just how dangerous the roadways are without proper lighting,” said Assemblyman Spano.

The NYSDOT was quick to shed light on the situation noting that they had contracted with a local electrical contractor to assist in their repairs of a bad cable in the center median. Assemblyman Spano, who remained fearful for the safety of the many motorists who frequent this major thoroughfare, stayed in constant contact with the NYSDOT.

NYSDOT officials have been working diligently in seeing this dangerous situation corrected and as early as this morning, nearly half of the street lights which were without illumination, were back up and running and they are hopeful the remaining lights will be re-lit in the near future.

“I would like to applaud the efforts of the NYSDOT.  They realized that insufficient lighting may cause a major accident, or worse, a fatality and they have taken the necessary precautions to ensure this does not happen,” stated Assemblyman Spano.

“Due to the nature of the Cross County Parkway and the exit ramps, sufficient lighting is required and we cannot allow lights along this parkway or any parkway to be out for weeks or months at a time,” concluded Assemblyman Mike Spano.

Hey !!! Mikey The lights at the entrance to I-87 off tuckahoe road have been out for months, why is a DOT official held responsible for this. Don't they make periodic checks or is that too complicated and intelligent for them.

This guy is even dumber than we thought.

LOL. No one ever said Mikey was the brightest bulb in the fixture.

The SpaNO pander machine is back. nick must be teaching him. The white knight brings "light to the parkway."

I remember Nicks "white knight getting the parkway repaved." Of course using the same company that does most of the work in Yonkers, cha-ching...

Yo, blind dude: the lights on the CCP have had problems for years being out for extended periods. If you are only noticing now, you are blind as a bat.

The results update guarantee that Nick Spano will not run against Andrea Stewart-Cousins this year.

If the NYS Senate Republicans can not carry an upstate Republican district no one - even Nick Spano can carry a downstate Democratic District. Nick has been making noises for the past few weeks about running. There is no way that will happen now. One more seat and the Senate could flip to a tie - with Democratis Lt. Governor David Patterson as the tie-breaker. Goodbye Joe Bruno.

Pretty bad. One-party rule is awful. Albany is bad enough already, and this would make it worse.

If Nick Spano is such a loyal Republican, like he claims he is, he will run rather than just concede the seat. If he's too selfish and afraid he might lose, he won't run. That's all there is to it.

Nick Spano, George Pataki and friends ruined the Republican Party by selling out to ultra liberal principles. In the meantime they feathered their own nests, very nicely, without a care for the real Republicans, whom they excluded from the party at every opportunity.

The Conservatiive Party is a joke and their support of bleeding heart liberals like the Spanos is borderline criminal.

Before long, however, the Spanos will see their total demise before their very eyes. They are definitely not smart enough to understand that they impaled themselves on their own sword. They will blame others in typical "caffone' style.

So who's left holding the bag? We, loyal, true reps, who have suffered while these idiots ruined a Party, a County and a City.

By the way, "turncoat" Mikey's pandering about fixing streetlights is laughable. During their 20 some year reign, "the dynasty" failed to bring home the bacon when it comes to road improvements. The last substantive money from Albany for roads came when Sen. Flynn was around. Now we suffer with outdated roadways to go along with our defunct Rep party.

P.S. Mike E. should not even try to respond since he is part and parcel of the group that cut the testicles off of the Republican Party.

Mike E. is a John Lindsay-Jacob Javits Republican. And that's not really a Republican at all. If the Repub. party morphs into another form of the Dem Party, although less wacky, there is not much of a difference between the two.

I am glad all of you are interested in characterizing the type of republican that
I am..of course I did charter YAF at Lehigh
supported Barry GOldwater and every other
Republican presidential candidate since etc
But lets look at the reason the Republican Party cannot win in NY....whereas in conn
and nJ similar states it can and it does...
We have a system that allows the conservative and independence party to
have a veto over whom the republican party
wants to select for office...and because
of that cross endorsement situation no
moderate republican on social issues gets
a chance at statewide or federal office.
Faso SPencer..both the creations of Mike
Long...Republicans in New York are not
hard right on social issues..they are more
like libertarians...live and let live
but the cross endorsement of the conservatives is so coveted that they
are forced to cow tow to the abortion
position espoused by mike long....
Gun Control, Gay RIghts and Abortion
should not be dictating the poltics
of the republican party in new york
taxes, and spending should...
and until such time as republicans free
themselves of that burden they will continue to lose elections

You are missing a very big point. If the NY Republicans are to play "live and let live" on some social issues then they need something else to separate themselves from the Democrats.

That should be fiscal responsibility, less spending, and controlling taxes. But the Albany Republicans are as bad as the Democrats in those areas. They are faux Democrats with no sense of fiscal responsibility, either. That is a losing formula any way you look at it.

A Yonkers lady wrote not ONE but TWO letters to the JN Editor on the parkway lights being out. Mike picked up the ball and ran with it after reading her complaints. The only problem is that Mike should have given the lady the credit instead of grandstanding on it for himself and claiming he saw the lights were out. Mike, just say you read the editorial and give the community the credit - don't be a hog.

Mike, rest assured that Ronald Reagan - a true Republicsn (convert) who was unafraid to stand up to pressure or yield on his principles- would probably slap you in the face or spank you along with the Spanos, Pataki and the Pirros.

Anyhow, you folks are done and finished. It will take a whole generation to undo the harm that your idiocy has done - from the Republican standpoint.

And then again, there are many democrats who are better Republicans than you are.

you are confusing my role as republican
commentator with my personal convictions
on other issues...but at any rate you
are right..the party may be done and finished albeit for exactly the oppposite
reasons that you cite...those of us who
recognized the problem tried to fix it but
were overruled...As to who makes a better republican, I doubt there are many democrats
who even want to be called republicans..it
appears to be a dirty word in new york
judging by the last round of new registrations in which the democrats
got 200,000 new voters and the republicans
got...hold on to you HAT....4000....total
nice job..my fault right?

Yes, Mike, you and your pals Pataki & the Spanos and the Pirros are to blame for the destruction of the Republican Party.

You have reduced Republicanism to a meaningless concept. In NY, under your tutelage, to be a "mainstream" Rep means nothing - might as well be a Democrat.

Why? Because you all thought it would be easier to cow tow to the liberal media, abandon the true planks of the party, take the easy way out, etc.

Perhaps people, especially young people might have been attracted to the Rep party if it stood for some form of moral, principled set of values. Maybe, those who don't believe in gay rights, same sex marriages, abortion on demand (to name a few) would have been motivated to join and support the Republican cause.

There is nothing to support in current NY republicanism and yes - hold on to you HAT -
nice job, Mike it's your fault.

You probably don't care.

New York State is done, cooked, cover it with dirt, if the Democrats control all three branches of government.May as well get a new state flag, with a hammer and sickle and change the non de plume from Empire State, to Peoples Republic of America.

you people are all nuts! cousins has done nothing - zero and everyone is paying the price right now. i wanted nick to run but i know think he is too good for some of you people! keep andrea nd drowned with her. you voted for her and you deserve her. MESS

I'M MOVING - GOOD LUCK YONKERS COUSINS AND YONKERS

I FORGOT TO ADD SPANO'S AND AMICONE'S

Yeah I'm Out of here too. Yonkers is crazy. This Mrs. Cousins hasn't done much if anything. Some people mostly fron greenburgh thought we should turn someone in who did his job and delivered for us. Now we have Mrs. Cousins. She can't deliver anything - Well except a new scarf every so often.
