Annabi Exposes City Hall's Vindictive Holding of Information

YONKERS, NY -- January 19, 2007 -- Council Member Annabi has today revealed proof that exposes the administration for their lack of cooperation and communication with City Council Members in their efforts to get information.  Annabi said, “Once again the Mayor’s office has blocked our efforts in trying to obtain public information from their office.”

“Mayor Amicone’s Chief of Staff, Lisa Mrijaj has made her ill intentions  known by advising the Mayor and Deputy Mayor to withhold public information from the Council.”, Annabi said.  “A request was made by my office to obtain a copy of a list of Yonkers’ City owned properties but clearly, unless you are a political ally of this administration, you’re not privy to any information and information is deliberately withheld” Annabi continued, “This is a perfect example of how government should not be operating.”

 

In a request made by Council Member Annabi’s office to obtain public information a response from the Chief of Staff to the Mayor and Deputy Mayor in an email advised, “I would not give it to her especially unless we know why she wants it.  She has not done anything to help us.”  Annabi said.

“This is proof that unless you are in a position to help the Mayor, you are not going to get the cooperation or services needed of his office and staff.” Furthermore, department heads are instructed not to communicate or provide vital information to the Council unless the requests are made through the Mayor’s office. 

“As a result of the chief of staff’s decision, my office must now resort to obtaining public information through the Freedom of Information Law.”    In addition, Annabi is requesting the Chief of Staff, Lisa Mrijaj, to explain her statement to the people of Yonkers.

This exposes how little Annabi knows about real estate and city government.

All she has to do is get her makup and overdone hair down to the TAX ASSESSORS OFFICE. Miracle of Miracles, every property in Yonkers, including city owned property, is available for PUBLIC INSPECTION. There are books and computers (yes Yonkers has them!) on the desk, and she just has to look it up. She can print out anyting she wants. I have always found the people in the Assessors office to be very helpful.

What she wants is for the assessor to stop what he is doing, and compile a very long list for her. She would probably get a one line per property printout. What would she do with it?

Bottom line a FOIL is silly as the data is there every day to her and anyone else. She just has to get off her rear end.

FYI: It is illegal to ask the reason for a Freedom of Information Request as per the law and Albany will acknowledge this.

Lisa Miraji's response is just typical of this information-clandestine administration.

To the PATHETIC poster above, your knowledge of how the City works is wrong. You cannot just go to the City Tax Assessors office and list all City Owned properties. So you PATHETIC are the one who is PATHETIC.

We are missing the big picture here. The issue isnt where and what the properties are. The issue is why would the chief of staff take that type of approach. Thefact that she would not give it to her because she didnt know her intentions is ludacris. Furthermore saying that she has done nothing to help us is a clear indication that the mayor's administration is blackballing people who do not stand behind their agenda. This conduct is unprofessional and the individual needs to be dealt with because the message being sent is, if you are against me you will get nothing from me even if you are SUPPOSED to get it. Cant wait to see Phil lose, hopefully a good Republican will come along and primary him, I refuse to vote for Phil or a Dem.

First of all, why should the Mayor go out of his way help her, when all the info is publically available already. Especially after going to YT.

To the nasty response to my post earlier, I never said you can go to the Assessors office, press a button and have a list of every city property printed. I simply said the data is available, and she, like everyone else has to do the WORK to get it. She wants its easy; let her work like everyone else.
